2010 emmy nominations: 'The Pacific,' 'Glee' and 'Mad Men' lead the pack

Nominations for the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards took place this morning at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre in North Hollywood, California. "Community" star Joel McHale and "Modern Family" actress (and 2010 Emmy nominee) SofĂa Vergara were on hand to announce the major nominations.

The HBO mini-series "The Pacific" led the nominations with 24, followed by the FOX hit "Glee" with 19 nods and AMC's "Mad Men," with 17 nominations.
There was also a large nod to former "Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien whose brief stint as host was not forgotten as his version of the NBC late-night show with him at the host snagged a nomination as best variety, music or comedy series. Current "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno was snubbed in the category.
This year's Emmy telecast will take place on August 29 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California with "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon as emcee. It will broadcast live on NBC.
Traditionally, the Emmy Awards are held in the middle of September. The Peacock network says the decision to schedule the awards show for Aug. 29, was made early to get a head start on planning. NBC airs NFL games on Sunday nights in September, so scheduling the Emmys during late August avoids a conflict.
